The purpose of Cowboy Pledge is to create opportunities for our residents to connect and become involved with the larger community. With this in mind, Cowboy Pledge has conducted several fun and exciting events. Each activity has provided our residents with a chance to reach out to others in our community and share their resources and talents.
The Cowboy Pledge Kickoff event took place on June 6, 2011. An Evening at the Utah Food Bank gave volunteers from several communities a chance to sort and repack over 7,000 pounds of food for distribution to food banks and pantries in several locations in Utah.
The Cowboy Pledge Summer Food Drive from June 27, to July 8, 2011 was a follow up to the kick off event. Residents from 13 Cowboy Properties communities donated over 1,000 pounds of food to the Utah Food Bank.
In August and September, residents donated school supplies to the Back to School Backpacks for Kids event. This effort provided enough supplies to fill 127 backpacks at a volunteer effort on August 10, 2011. This activity took place at one of our senior communities and included over 20 volunteers from several communities in the Salt Lake Valley. They helped sort and assemble the items before stuffing them in backpacks for donation to five local elementary schools and to The Road Home.
On October 15, 2011, Cowboy Pledge volunteers from several Cowboy Properties communities joined local residents and other volunteers in an exciting tree-planting event. Their combined efforts produced a new neighborhood apple and pear orchard on the corner of 1100 East and 100 South in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Eastside Community Council in cooperation with TreeUtah, organized this project and coordinated the work of planting 60 five-gallon fruit trees. The trees were provided through a generous donation from Smiths Food and Drug. This site, owned by the Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, is the first neighborhood orchard of its kind in the community.
We would like to thank each resident and volunteer for helping to make these activities a great success.
December 2, 2011 through December 16, 2011, Cowboy Properties held a winter coat and winter clothing and blanket drive for the benefit of The Road Home. The 2011 Cowboy Pledge Winter Coat and Blanket and Clothing drive was a tremendous success. We hope you felt the joy of providing some warmth and comfort to those in need in our community and express our thanks for your generous support.
On January 17, 2012 residents from several Cowboy Properties communities and their friends joined in a fun and fast-paced project at the Utah Food Bank. Each month the Utah Food Bank delivers more than 2,600 boxes of food to low-income seniors. Our volunteers worked with enthusiasm and checked each box on 11 full pallets of previously boxed food. They confirmed that all scheduled items were included.
On February 25, 2012 residents and Cowboy Properties employees donated enough items to fill 25 school bags with pencils, erasers, pens, rulers, school glue, crayons and markers. The event supported Safe Harbor Women's Shelter. Other donations included activity books, colored construction paper, and coloring books. Each school bag also contained two lined paper notebooks, a pencil bag and several pencil sharpeners.
